The Three Main Components of Biological Filtration for Aquaculture

Filter Media for Aquaculture
- In aquaculture biological filtration, we primarily rely on nitrite-oxidizing bacteria to decompose ammonia nitrogen and nitrate-oxidizing bacteria to decompose nitrite. Filter media serves as an attachment surface for beneficial bacteria
- The continuous production of ammonia nitrogen and nitrite requires more bacteria to break them down. We need to provide them with more space to attach.
- This is a crucial parameter for filter media: Specific surface area.

Biological Filtration Tank
- Biological filtration tanks are containers for filter media.
- The type and quantity of filter media must be considered when designing a biological filtration tank.
- Additionally, the site environment, transportation, and installation issues must be fully considered.

Biological Filtration Aeration
- Nitrifying and nitrite-oxidizing bacteria are aerobic and require more oxygen to reproduce.
- The filter media also needs more air to agitate it, ensuring sufficient contact between beneficial bacteria, ammonia nitrogen, and nitrite.
- Both require a highly efficient aeration system to function properly.

Highly Efficient Aerator for Biological Filtration Aquaculture
Aeration in aquaculture biological filtration requires a large amount of air to be injected into the biological filter tank. We recommend using an air aerator; you can choose the appropriate model based on your scale.

Biological Filtration for Aquaculture FAQ
- Surface area: A larger surface area allows for the attachment of more beneficial bacteria.
- Water flow permeability: Better water flow permeability allows for greater contact between the water, filter media, and bacteria.
This is our latest aquaculture technology, and we need to design a filtration system for 1-4 aquaculture tanks.
Instead of the traditional approach, the entire project uses a single large biological filtration system.
Independent biosafety, flexible installation, and management; please see our independent RAS system design for more information.
In traditional aquaponics systems,
physical filtration is ineffective, necessitating the addition of a biological filter.
With our technological breakthrough, we recommend using a centrifugal filter and a compass filter for mechanical filtration; the remaining nutrients can be fully absorbed by the vegetables. No additional aquaponics biological filter is needed.
