6 Core Functions of Centrifugal Drum Filters

- Our stainless steel drum filter mesh is available in 25-micron (500 mesh), 23-micron (600 mesh), and 18-micron (800 mesh) options and has been operating stably in over 100 projects.
- Currently, almost all rotary microscreen drum filters have a filtration precision of 150-micron (100 mesh) to 75-micron (200 mesh).
- The filtration precision of 25 microns and 150 microns is completely different. For aquaculture solids filtration, a finer filtration precision can filter out more solid waste, such as fish and shrimp feces, leftover food, etc.
- Under a microscope, we observed the wastewater separated by our centrifugal filter. Besides fish feces, it even contained insects and insect eggs, something ordinary drum filters do not possess.
- With a filtration precision of 25 microns, redefining particle filtration, it is the perfect mechanical filter for aquaculture.
- We employ a centrifugal operation method. High-efficiency wastewater filtration, rather than simply allowing wastewater to pass through, uses centrifugal force to force it through the filter screen, separating any particles larger than 25 microns in filtration precision.
- Direct drive mode: the motor is directly connected to the drum, eliminating the need for a gearbox and transmission system. This reduces power loss.
- All motors are equipped with frequency converters, allowing speed adjustments based on different aquaculture environments, ensuring the entire drum operates within its high-efficiency range.
- The conical filter drum design accelerates the collection of solid particles.
- Solid particles separated inside the filter drum are concentrated to one side of the drum under the influence of centrifugal force and gravity, and are eventually collected in the wastewater tank.
- Centrifugal filters are pump-fed drum filters, and each model can be paired with a suitable water pump for precise flow control.
- When wastewater passes through a 25-micron filter, it is forcibly broken down into smaller water molecules. This increases the surface area of the wastewater in contact with the air.
- Harmful gases such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Ammonia (NH3), and Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) contained in aquaculture wastewater can be more effectively discharged.
- The centrifugal drum filter has a built-in UV lamp.
- The UV lamp prevents algae growth on the filter screen because our high-precision filter screen will clog the mesh.
- Because the wastewater flow is broken down into smaller water molecules, the UV lamp can have a larger working area, thus significantly improving the effect.
- Both the filter screen and frame are made of stainless steel, maintaining stable physical properties even under continuous operation of the UV germicidal lamp.
- The centrifugal drum filter is equipped with an external high-pressure water pump for backwashing. The pump draws filtered water from inside the filter housing and cleans the filter screen surface through high-pressure nozzles.
- The cleaning system does not consume additional water; 90% of the water is re-filtered inside the drum. In actual operation, multiple starts of the backwash system did not result in a significant increase in wastewater discharge.
- The backwash system is adjustable; both the backwash interval and operating time can be adjusted to adapt to different aquaculture conditions.

Switch from Traditional Mechanical Filters to Automatic Drum Filters
- These filters require regular manual cleaning, take up a large area, and are complex to install.
- Slow filtration speed and low precision. They are not suitable for commercial aquaculture and aquaponics filtration systems.
- Using centrifugal Automatic Drum Filters avoids these problems.
Advantages of Centrifugal VS Gravity-Fed Traditional Drum Filters.

Centrifugal Drum Filter Structure

Traditional Drum Filter Structure
✅Centrifugal drum filter, with a filtration precision of up to 25 microns(500 mesh), and even 18 microns(800 mesh) in some applications.
✅In aquaculture mechanical filtration, higher precision allows for the filtration of more solid particles.
❌ Traditional drum filters can typically only achieve a resolution of 150 microns (100 mesh), and in some cases, up to 75 microns (200 mesh).
❌Because of the different overall technical approach, traditional drum fitters are almost unable to operate above 75 microns.
✅Centrifugal filtration uses powerful centrifugal force to force wastewater through the filter screen, with over 99% of the wastewater passing through.
✅The remaining solids and particulate waste are retained in the filter screen and eventually discharged.
✅This is a highly efficient filtration method that forcibly cuts the water flow, which not only improves filtration accuracy but also avoids generating more wastewater.
❌Traditional drum filters use gravity. The filter screen has internal wastewater collection grooves that rotate with the drum. When the grooves reach their apex, the waste collected falls into the drain along with the water.
❌This method is very slow, similar to scooping particles from sewage.
❌Furthermore, the discharged wastewater contains a large amount of water, resulting in significant waste.
✅Our centrifugal drum filter does not use the traditional drum filter drive mode; instead, we have uniquely developed a direct-drive power system.
✅This reduces power loss and eliminates the need for maintenance of gearboxes and transmission devices.
❌Traditional drum filters use a gearbox and chain to distribute power.
❌Power is lost, and the gearbox and transmission require regular maintenance. The additional mechanical structure increases the risk of damage.
✅After passing through centrifugal force and being cut by a 25-micron filter, the water makes full contact with the air. Harmful gases produced in aquaculture are separated.
✅Degassing is crucial in high-density aquaculture. Using our drum filter for the RAS system eliminates the need for additional degassing equipment, such as degassing towers.
❌Traditional drum filters lack degassing functionality.Because of its operating method and filtration precision, it cannot effectively separate harmful gases.
❌In RAS systems or other closed aquaculture systems, using traditional drum filters requires the design of additional specialized degassing equipment.
✅ By breaking water molecules down into smaller ones, the working area of the UV germicidal lamp is increased, enhancing its sterilization and virus-killing effects.
✅ Sterilization is equally important in a closed-loop RAS system. In centrifugal filtration mode, there is no need to add an additional UV sterilizer, reducing costs and improving energy efficiency.
❌ Traditional drum filters lack water flow cutting functionality, and the UV sterilization lamp has a limited irradiation area. They are practically ineffective at sterilization and disinfection.
❌ An additional UV sterilizer is required within the same RAS system.
✅The centrifugal drum filter features a more rationally designed self-cleaning system.
✅For the 100m³ model, our actual 24-hour wastewater volume testing showed 2-4% of the total wastewater, of which over 60% consisted of particulate matter or mixed solid and liquid contaminants.
❌Traditional drum filters waste water in their operation, filtration methods, wastewater discharge, and self-cleaning systems.
❌For a 100m³ model, the 24-hour wastewater volume exceeds 8%, most of which is water, not concentrated contaminants.
