Is feed management in aquaculture important?

Yes, it is extremely important, and its impact is primarily twofold:

1. Effective feed management can improve the feed conversion ratio in aquaculture; this reduces waste and directly lowers costs.
2. Improving the feed conversion ratio in aquaculture helps reduce the organic matter content in the water, as residual feed is one of the primary sources of ammonia nitrogen and nitrites.

  • Fish feed pellets have a relatively large diameter, typically ranging from 0.5 mm to 4 mm. Feeding is required 2 to 3 times per day.
  • Shrimp feed pellets have a relatively small diameter, typically ranging from 0.4 mm to 1 mm. Feeding is required 5 to 6 times per day.
  • Based on the different characteristics of pelleted feed and fish/shrimp, we developed two different models to improve the feed conversion ratio in aquaculture.

Utilizing a rotating-rod feeding mechanism, this system is designed for use with rectangular-shaped feed pellets.

By simulating the natural foraging behaviors of fish, the feed mimics the movements of small insects or juvenile fish as they drift through the water.

This feeding method is also ideally suited for fish species that prefer live prey—such as Mandarin fish, tuna, and salmon.

If you are merely conducting a pilot project or a small-scale, entry-level aquaculture operation, a standalone automatic feeder is a suitable choice.

However, for commercial or large-scale aquaculture projects, a fully automated feeding system is the optimal solution, as it helps reduce management costs and improves feed conversion efficiency (FCE).

  • For small-scale systems, the use of a single automatic fish feeder is the preferred recommendation.
  • For high-density RAS systems, a single automatic fish feeder or a Central Silo + Terminal Individual Aquaculture Feeders System is recommended.
  • For large-scale systems, we recommend using a Pneumatic Automatic Feeding System.
